Our Christmas season culminated this week with the feast of the Epiphany.
Here are some highlights from our primary French lessons from Advent through to the New Year...
Y2 enjoyed learning some religious Christmas vocabulary and listening to a simple nativity story in French. They then performed their own nativity play ! They also made some nativity mini-books to take home and share with their families.
Y3 enjoyed learning some secular French Christmas vocabulary and then consolidating their learning through a few on-line games ! Their pronunciation was fantastic ! Bravo les enfants !

They then made some festive bookmarks that included some of this new vocabulary and took them home to use throughout Advent.
Learning some festive vocabulary also gave Y3 the opportunity to revisit numbers and colours that were core objectives during the autumn term.
Y4, Y5 and Y6 enjoyed learning about how Christmas is celebrated in France and singing some French Christmas carols. Here is a clip of Y5 pupils from Saint Joseph's, Ramsbottom, singing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" in French:

Years 4, 5 & 6 enjoyed making French Christmas cards to take home and share with their families. These were made in the style of Christmas spinners where you can rotate the small circle to reveal all of the different celebrations that take place at Christmas time in France.
All KS2 pupils were given an optional research task of finding out some more information about how Christmas is celebrated in France. Here is a wonderful piece of work by a Y5 pupil at Guardian Angels' in Elton.

The Epiphany on the 6th January 2016 marked the end of our festive season.
The pupils learnt about how a special "King's Cake" called "Une Galette des Rois" is traditionally eaten in France to mark this important event.
Whoever finds the "fève" (charm) in their piece of cake becomes "le roi" (the king) or "la reine" (the queen) for the day !
The "Galette des Rois" is eaten throughout the month of January so why not have a go at making one at home with an adult and enjoy eating it with your family "à la française" ? Watch how simple it is to make in this clip taken from "Raymond Blanc's Christmas Feast" :
