Les genres de film !

As part of our leisure topic in French this half term, KS2 French classes have been learning about film genres.

We started off by introducing different genres of film in French.

We then practised saying what types of films we like...

...and why:
We also revisited other ways of expressing likes and dislikes...
...before conducting a class survey in French where pupils interviewed each other about which film genres they prefer:

The children then wrote a few sentences or a short paragraph about their own opinions of different films in French:

The pupils also discovered what the Cannes Film Festival is about:

Why not look at the Cannes Film Festival website to learn more about it ?
We ended the lesson by watching a trailer of the award winning animated movie Ernest & Célestine (2012):

Why not watch this trailer of Le Petit Prince (2015), an animated film based on the famous book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry ?

You could also watch this classic short French film Le Ballon rouge (1956)...

... or simply see what is on in French cinemas today :

There is also a fantastic cinema museum in Paris to discover :

Bon film !

C’est l’Halloween !

Upper Key Stage 2 classes celebrated Halloween in French lessons this week by creating their own magic potion recipes !

We started off by looking at the popular French poem La soupe de la sorcière by Jacques  Charpentreau.

This poem enabled pupils to revisit some familiar language on numbers and animals in addition to recapping basic grammatical rules about forming plural nouns.  We then watched this lovely video clip of young French children reciting the poem alongside their own illustrations.

We followed on by introducing the preposition de to express possession.  Finally pupils chose to work independently or in pairs, creating their own magic potion recipes in French. The children then presented their magic potion recipes to the rest of the class. Some pupils particularly enjoyed the cross-curricular drama activity which involved getting into character as une sorcière and reading the recipes out aloud in a cackling voice !

This was an excellent opportunity for pupils to get creative by using some familiar language in a new context whilst also learning some new vocabulary, practising using plural nouns and developing their dictionary skills by looking up some spooktacular vocabulary using bilingual dictionaries.

Why not now listen to this Boowa et Kwala French song : Dans ma potion and listen out for the creepy creatures mentioned in the recipe ?

Dans ma potion

Dis-moi quoi
Ce qu'il y a
Dis-moi quoi
Ce qu'il y a
Là là làaaaaaaaaaa ?

Il y a...
D'la morve de géant
D'la langue de serpent
Du jus d'escargot
Un cœur d'asticot
Du vomi de mouche
Un crapaud qui louche
Une larve desséchée
Un pou écrasé
Est-ce que tu veux goûter ?

Haaaaaa ! Non merci !

Dis-moi quoi
Ce qu'il y a
Dis-moi quoi
Ce qu'il y a
Là là làaaaaaaaaaa

Il y a...
Un poil de chat roux
Et une griffe de loup
Un rat pas très beau
Une plume de corbeau
Du moisi en baume
Un pfff de fantôme
Un gros scarabée
Une crotte d'araignée
