Upper Key Stage 2 classes celebrated Halloween in French lessons
this week by creating their own magic potion recipes !
We started off by looking at the popular French poem La soupe de la sorcière by Jacques Charpentreau.
This poem enabled pupils to revisit some familiar language
on numbers and animals in addition to recapping basic grammatical rules about forming
plural nouns. We then watched this lovely
video clip of young French children reciting the poem alongside their own illustrations.
We followed on by introducing the preposition de to express possession. Finally pupils chose to work independently or in
pairs, creating their own magic potion recipes in French. The children then presented
their magic potion recipes to the rest of the class. Some pupils particularly enjoyed the cross-curricular drama
activity which involved getting into character as une sorcière
and reading the recipes out aloud in a cackling voice !
This was an excellent opportunity for pupils to get creative
by using some familiar language in a new context whilst also learning some new
vocabulary, practising using plural nouns and developing their dictionary
skills by looking up some spooktacular vocabulary
using bilingual dictionaries.
