Comment t'appelles-tu ?

Y3 pupils have recently been learning how to say what they are called in French and asking others what they are called:

The children watched this short BBC animated clip about Roller and his friends introducing themselves before using the shared floor area to mingle and introduce themselves to each other in French:

They enjoyed listening to a French finger rhyme called "Deux Petit Oiseaux", about two little birds who greet each other and introduce themselves:

The children then had fun joining in with this finger rhyme using puppets or making actions using their own fingers.

Once the children felt confident with these new structures, they worked in pairs practising this simple dialogue:

We ended the lesson by listening to this song about greetings and introductions and the children joined in with the chorus:

The following lesson, pupils were introduced to the French alphabet.  They listened carefully to how each letter is pronounced and repeated it.  They observed how some letters sound like the same letter in their own language whilst other letters sound completely different.

The children then picked a foam letter out of a bag and listened to a French alphabet song.  They joined in by singing along and holding up their foam letters when they heard their letter being sung :

Pupils next focused on correctly pronouncing the vowels in the French alphabet and used mirrors to observe how their mouths changed shape:

The pupils also had some fun doing some cross-curricular drama to reinforce the French alphabet.  They worked in pairs taking it in turns to act out the role of the optician and the client:

Finally, pupils were ready to have a go at spelling their own names in French:

BRAVO LES ENFANTS !
