As an introduction to our
French topic, La vie scolaire (School
Life), KS2 children enjoyed learning about school life in France and comparing
and contrasting this to school life in England. They were suprised to learn that French children don't wear a school uniform! We looked at some French primary school websites together and they also found these following BBC French video clips about visiting a French school interesting:
After developing their
intercultural understanding about the French education system, the children
progressed by learning how to talk about various issues surrounding school
life, including learning how to ask and answer questions about which school
subjects they enjoy and don’t enjoy and express simple opinions.
The children then went on
to learn how to describe their school uniform, say how they travel to school
and name classroom objects. They learnt how
to tell the time and then looked at authentic school timetables.
At the end of this topic,
UKS2 produced some impressive pieces of writing about their own school in
French:
Some
fantastic descriptions about school uniform were also produced! LKS2 children simply drew and labelled individual
items of their school uniform in French whilst UKS2 children produced extended
descriptions of their school uniform and presented this information in both written
form and orally to the rest of the class. They expressed opinions about their school
uniform and developed their use of adjectival agreements by describing the colour of
each item of their school uniform!
Bravo
les enfants!
